There are many type of French tests for beginners on Internet. Most of them are free placement tests. You answer between 10 and 40 questions. You get an evaluation of your level according to the DELF (Diplôme d’études en Langue Française). It’s a series of French diplomas for all public, ranking for beginners (A1, A2) to intermediate (B1, B2) to advanced French speakers (C1, C2).
Whether this is one of your goal or not, just know that to be able to apply for the French nationality, you need to pass the B1 test. The good news is when you pass it, it’s for life. No need to do it again!

Platforms like ILA, Lingolia, and Alpadia offer free placement tests on grammar, vocabulary, and comprehension. They can then suggest the right level of classes for you. You can take those tests without buying the classes. And you can take those tests as many times as you want.
I created Test Your French because I’ve found that people can place very well in those tests, but as soon as they get to France, it’s like they don’t know French. We do speak differently from what you learn, even in Duolingo.
I know that as a Parisian, I speak pretty fast and I eat a lot of the words. So it’s pretty impossible to understand me if you are not used to it. That is why I created Test Your French. I designed tests that are the exact replica of French tone, speed and vocabulary in areas like a coffee shop or a boulangerie.
We offer a free French test but it’s for intermediate learners, try it if you dare! It will help you avoid the “French shock”. It’s when a French person talks to you, you hear bird noises. You thought you knew French, but nope!
